Speaking of modification, what properties of materials have been modified by general modified plastics? There are roughly 8 types in summary. They are:

1. Density

The density of modified plastics is divided into two types, one is to reduce the density of the plastic, and the other is to increase the density of the plastic, depending on the choice of the end application.

2. Transparency

Regarding the transparency of plastics, the relationship between crystals and transparency is generally used. The transparency of plastics is related to the crystallinity of products. By controlling the different morphological structures of products, the transparency can be improved. To measure the transparency of a material, there are many performance indicators that need to be considered. Commonly used indicators are: transmittance, haze, refractive index, birefringence and dispersion. A good transparent material requires the above-mentioned performance indicators to be excellent and balanced.

3. Hardness and flexibility

The hardness of modified plastics is divided into surface hardness and overall hardness. Hard additives are generally added to the plastics, generally rigid inorganic fillers. Surface hardness: only improve the surface hardness of plastic products, while the internal hardness of the product remains unchanged. Low cost, mainly used for decoration materials, daily necessities, etc. The main methods are coating, plating and surface treatment. Overall hardness: Generally, the plastic blending improvement method is to mix high-hardness resin with low-hardness resin to increase its overall hardness.

Generally, plasticizers are added to change the flexibility of plastics. The main function of plasticizers is to improve the processability of the resin, that is, to reduce the processing temperature and improve the processing fluidity. But when it is added to the relevant resin, it can also give the product flexibility.

4. Processing performance

The processing performance of modified plastics is generally manifested in: increasing the thermal decomposition temperature of the resin; reducing the melting temperature of the resin; improving the processing fluidity of the resin; improving the melt characteristics of the resin.

Commonly used modification methods are adding modification, adding plasticizers and lubricants. Plasticizers can improve the plasticity of polymers; the role of lubricants is to reduce the friction between materials and the surface of materials and processing equipment, reduce the flow resistance of the melt, reduce the viscosity of the melt, and improve the fluidity of the melt. The adhesion between the melt and the equipment can improve the surface finish of the product.

5. Strength

Strength enhancement is generally the addition of reinforcing fillers and fibers. Most conventional fillers are directly added to the resin, which will cause the tensile strength of the plastic to decrease. However, some special fillers added directly will not cause a decrease in the tensile strength, but will increase the tensile strength to a certain extent. We call this type of fillers as reinforcing fillers. The reinforcement modification of reinforcement is far inferior to reinforcement fiber, and can only be used in some occasions where the strength requirements are not too high. The method of adding fiber to plastic is a common and effective method of strengthening.

6. Toughness

The toughening of modified plastics is generally to blend elastomer materials to enhance the toughness of the plastics. Commonly used elastomer toughening materials include: high-impact resins, such as CPE, MBS, EVA, modified petroleum resin (MPR), etc.; high-impact rubbers, such as ethylene propylene rubber (EPR), ethylene propylene diene rubber (EPDM) , Nitrile rubber (NBR), styrene butadiene rubber, natural rubber, butadiene rubber, neoprene, etc.
